Texas Tech men's golf head coach Greg Sands announced the signing of elite Colombian golfer Samuel González Rivera, who will join the Red Raiders for the 2026–27 season. Considered one of South America's premier junior talents, González brings an impressive competitive resume that includes a victory at the South American Junior Championship, selection to the 2024 International Junior Presidents Cup Team, and a first-place finish at the 2025 Copa Eduardo Herrera. Coach Sands highlighted his exceptional drive, character, and alignment with the program's values as key assets he brings to the roster.
Off the course, González was raised in Manizales, Colombia, by his parents, Santiago González and Aura Patricia Rivera, and completed his preparatory education through Education World Wide. He continues a rich family and national legacy in Lubbock, following three relatives, Esteban Restrepo, Iván Camilo Ramírez, and Santiago Rivas, who previously competed for Texas Tech. Outside of golf, he enjoys playing pádel and working out, and he intends to pursue a degree in business during his collegiate career.
