Simon Hovdal made an immediate impact as a freshman (2025–26) for Texas Tech, recording a 72.6 scoring average over 21 rounds. Named to the Golf Channel Preseason All-Freshman Second-Team, he played eight tournaments, counting four of six rounds toward team scores. Hovdal stepped up as a postseason substitute at both the Big 12 Championship (70-74) and NCAA Corvallis Regional (72). As an individual, he placed T-10th at The Prestige, tied for 12th at the Mountaineer Invitational at 3-under 213, and fired a season-low 68 at the Valspar Collegiate.
Hailing from Varberg, Sweden, and a product of Filbornaskolan ("The Rig"), Hovdal joined the Red Raiders with an elite international resume. He led Sweden to gold at the 2023 European Boys' and 2024 European Men's Team Championships, captured the 2023 Jacques Léglise and Annika Sörenstam trophies, and was runner-up at the 2024 Swedish National Match Play Championship. Continuing his global play, he represented Sweden at the 34th World Amateur Team Championship in Singapore during his freshman fall.
